space. Ch 2 and 1 dtr.)
Now time to make the skull´s eyes. They are made separately so it´s
easier to begin on a new ball of yarn. Chain 14 and close with a slipstitch. (
If you don´t want to make the eyes seperately... there is an alternative at the
bottom at this blogpost.)
Ch another 14 and close with a slip stitch ( into the same stitch you
closed the first circle .)
Crochet 18 sc round each circle. Now they
are ready to be crocheted into the shawl. ( you will need 21 par of eyes for a
shawl with 6 skulls in a row at the top )
Now hold the eyes together with the shawl. Crochet them together with 4
sc. ( only in the back loop or the front loop or the seam will be to thick.)
Now hold the eyes together with the shawl.
Crochet them together with 4 sc.
Skip the stitches marked with pink on the eyes (two pictures before) One
slipstich each in the three next stitches.
With your next 4 sc you will crochet the other eye to the shawl. Again just in
the front loop or the back loop, and then 2 slipstitches in the eyes only.
In the next round I will show you the complete round with the eyes.
9. Ch 8. 4 dc in space. Ch 2. 4 dc in space. Ch 8. 2 slipstitches

And the next time you have 4 groups of dc in a row on the sides and in the
middle, then it's time to start on three new skulls on the next round.
In the end, to get a nice looking ending, instead of beginning crocheting
new skulls I continued with 4 dc and 2 chains between. Like this:
When you are tired of looking at my pictures
and know where to put the stitches, you can write this down on a piece of
paper, to know how the skulls are made. The bottom line is where you start your
skulls.

On request I made an alternative design. This is an other way of making the
eyes, if you want to crochet your eyes directly into the shawl. Altough I still
think the originalpattern is nicer looking and worth the extra time to weave in
the extra ends ;-).
Row 8 as usual.
9. Ch 8. 4 dc in space. Ch 2. 4 dc in space. And here it comes... Ch 10.
4 sc in the 4 first stitches on the skull. Chain 5 and skip 3 stitches on
the shawl. 4 sc on the skull. Turn.
Chain 10 and make a sc around the chain in the middle. Chain 10 and crochet
a slipstitch into the very first sc you made. Turn.
Now crochet 10 sc around each arch. Then a sl st. Chain 10. 4
dc in space. Ch 2. 4 dc in space. Ch 2 and 1 dtr.
The next row you will have to chain 10 instead of 8. Like this:
10. Ch 8. 4 dc in space. Ch 2. 4 dc i space. Ch 10. 16 slst onto skull (
count 8 from the middle and start there) Ch 10. 4 dc in space. Ch 2. 4 dc in
space. Ch 2 and 1 dtr.)
After that you can continue with the originalpattern as usual. And when you
are done...the skull will look something like...
All the pictures are in the original blog!
